If you plan to watch this episode, do not read the following
article until you have watched it. Ok realistically I can’t stop you, but there
are SPOILERS below. You have been warned.
As I said 3 episodes ago, Theon Greyjoy is a douche. In this
episode he takes over Winterfell as he planned to, but without his sister and
with few men. Bran obviously tells his people he’s yielding, since most of
their men are south and Bran can’t do much (I mean he is a crippled boy). Theon
doesn’t stop here and he decides to execute Ser Rodrik, which is completely
idiotic. With Theon’s actions, Robb (arguably the best leader in terms of
battles) wants to find him and kill him. Roose Bolton explains that his son can
do that for him, since Robb can’t leave the war for King’s Landing. Theon has
absolutely no way of surviving for long. He doesn’t seem good with fighting, he
doesn’t have many people backing him up (even the people of Pyke laugh at him),
and he seem to have gone insane (especially while executing Rodrik). This isn’t
exactly the formula for success during a battle. I also don’t think his sister
will send the troops he asked her to send, because the rest of his family seems
to have little respect for him. I mean who should have respect for him? He’s
almost as hated as Joffrey in my books. These series of events confirm Bran’s
ability to see the future in his dreams, as the sea (Theon’s people from the
sea) flooded the castle and Rodrik was one of the people who drowned. One
character that gained a lot of respect from me this episode is Osha. She sleeps
with Theon to distract him and sneaks out while Bran, his little brother and
Luwin (giant) get ready to leave. A guard comes in her way but she seduces him
and cuts his neck. She whistles to the trio plus the two wolves that the coast
is clear for them to escape. She definitely cares for Bran and offers to help
him in these terrible times for Winterfell. The biggest problem now is…there
are no Starks in Winterfell.
A new story grows beyond the Wall after the group of rangers
and Jon Snow stumble upon the wildlings they were searching for. One female
(Ygritte) is spared by Jon initially, but as he is about to execute her he
misses and she runs away. After chasing her he catches up and takes her as a
hostage, but he loses his fellow rangers. Now it’s just them two alone beyond
the Wall so Jon has to be smart about what he does from now on, because these
wildlings are sneaky. Ygritte persuades him to sleep next to her since it is
cold, but then she starts wiggling (shaking dat ass) while trying to fall
asleep. My guess is that she’s either trying to seduce him somewhat or she’s
try to wiggle out of the ropes that Jon has tied her with. There is definitely
some awkward tension between the two, indicating that they may have some feelings
toward each other, but it is too early to tell.
I really enjoy the Arya and Tywin interactions that take
place in Harrenhal. He treats her better than his dim-witted war council.
Little Finger enters in one of the scenes and explains how he’s trying to pull
strings with all the people involved in the war for the Throne. I really think
he’s the least trust worthy character in the whole show. While Arya is doing
her cup-bearing duties, Little Finger sees her face and I’m pretty sure he recognizes
who she is. Later on Arya again displays her quick thinking when Tywin asks her
how she learned to read and who her father was. When she asks Tywin if he knew
his father, she steals a letter than Tywin was going to send about Robb. After
reading the letter outside, she runs to put it back, but not before she gets
stopped by Amory Lorch who takes the letter and is off to warn Tywin. Arya
hunts down Jaqen and tells him to kill Amory Lorch, resulting in a hilarious
scene where he falls flat on his face as he enters Tywin’s room. The people of
Harrenhal should now know that there is an assassin in the city. I was so mad
when Aria had to waste a kill on someone as useless as Amory Lorch. Now she can
only kill one of Joffrey or Cersei, with my guess being Joffrey. Hopefully Arya
can stay out of trouble (unlikely) so she can use the last kill Jaqen offers
her on Joffrey.
Not much goes on at King’s Landing, except that Princess
Myrcella sails away and Joffrey causes a gigantic riot in the streets because
someone threw mud at his face. Everyone important escapes except for Sansa, who
nearly gets raped (hard scene to watch) by some villagers, but fortunately
Hound saves the day. Tyrion also gives Joffrey a lesson as to why he’s being a
terrible king (including a slap).
Back in Qarth, Daenerys attempts to get ships from the other
wealthy men of Qarth, but does not succeed. While she and Xaro are walking
toward her chamber, they see that all her men have been brutally killed and her
dragons have been stolen. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo anything but
the dragons. This is terrible for Daenerys because now she has lost her most
powerful weapon. Who could have taken it? The creepy people from the House of
the Undead? That women who was wearing a strange mask? Ser Jorah?? (doubt it
but just a thought). I’m going to guess it’s someone who we have not yet
encountered in Qarth. Now we have to wait and see what happens in this part of
the story in the next episode (cliff hangers are the worst!).
Just like last week, here is the Tyrion quote of the
episode:
“We've had vicious kings and we've had idiot kings, but I
don't know that we've ever been cursed with a vicious idiot” – Talking to
Joffrey
This episode really changed things up in every area of the
Game of Thrones world, and as always I’m excited for next week’s episode. Next
episode I really want to see more focus beyond the Wall and on Qarth, along
with a few more scenes from Tyrion.
