Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 3 - 'What is Dead May Never die"

If you plan to watch this episode, do not read the following article until you have watched it. Ok realistically I can’t stop you, but there are SPOILERS below. You have been warned.

First of all I would like to apologize for not writing a review for episode 2 and for delaying the writing of this one. Episode 2 was good, but it still seemed like an intro episode, similar to the first one and I have been busy with exams. In the future I will get the review up either Monday or Tuesday.

Secondly, Greyjoy is a douche.

Thirdly, I realized my review for episode 1 had to much summary, so I’m going to keep the summarizing the minimum this time around.

I’m going to start this review by saying that this was the best episode of the season so far and I feel as though most of the introductions are completed, so from now on it will only get better. This episode was highlighted by Tyrion’s amazing plan to break apart the council (he also kicked out Janos in episode 2) by identifying who was snitching to Cersei. I though that whole scene was shot perfectly, since each of the three other members of the council (excluding Cersei and Tyrion) were replaced by one another as we saw Tyrion change stories about sending Princess Myrcella to marry a different prince. Tyrion obviously emphasized not to tell Cersei, but the old man Pycelle was the snitch (I still remember how much I hated him in season one when he was yelling TREASON IS TREASON). I thought he was the best bet as the snitch, since at the end of season 1 he was seen with one of the whores from the brothel and he was standing upright normally so his apparent “back problem” looked like it was just for show. I’m rooting for Tyrion to take over the throne since he’s a little man who was hated on by the rest of his family (except maybe his father) and let’s face it..noone likes Joffrey.

So Greyjoys a really big douche. I mean I understand coming back to your family and joining them, but agreeing to backstab those who you grew up with and call your brothers is cold hearted. I feel bad for Robb now because he probably has to decide whether to keep invading southward or go back up north and protect his homeland (let’s face it, Bran can’t do anything). I know Robb will find a solution to the problem as he always does so I’m not too worried. I also think Greyjoy the douche might just be playing along for now, but then again he did have that whole “What is dead may never die” ritual so who knows. This will definitely be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Catelyn Stark travels to see Renly Baratheon (Robert’s homosexual brother) and Renly tells her that she has nothing to worry about since he will kill Joffrey and take over the throne. Later on, Renly is seen making out with is gay lover, but his lover says that Margaery (lover’s sister) should come instead and accept Renly’s baby. Margaery enters and obviously gets naked (Natalie Dormer is great at these scenes, just check out Tudors), but Renly ruins a potentially great scene by showing no interest in her. She suggests that her brother, Renly, and herself can have some crazy threesome orgy just to get her pregnant. Apparently that is all that matters at this point as was seen when Stannis Baratheon lasted a total of 7.5 seconds (estimated) while having sex with Melisandre in the last episode. How do the Baratheon’s manage to get two of the hottest women in the show? Actually three if you count Robert and Cersei.

Meanwhile, the story with Aria gets more interesting. Yoren has a drunken talk with Aria as the guards from the King’s Landing arrive. Yoren pulls his best King Leonidas/Boromir impression, fighting till he literally died just to try and save all the kids he was with. Aria ends the scene by helping out Gendry (when everyone else was going to give him away) by telling the guards that they had already killed him (a blond boy took Gendry’s bull helmet). Aria could be in deep shit now, since the guards are taking everyone back to King’s Landing. I hope she can stay in her boy disguise long enough so that nobody finds her and reports her to the Lannisters.

As for the other parts of the show, there was no scenes with Daenerys (sadly) and the Night’s watch is going to start moving along. I can’t wait for them to encounter the wildlings or the white walkers because I can see some sick fight scenes coming up soon.

Overall it was a great episode with enough of everything we’re used to from the Game of Thrones. Just like every week, I can’t wait until the next episode!

9.0/10

Episode 2 gets a score of 8.6/10
