This week's intro will be shorter than most weeks because final exams continue to suck. The pic above is of the original American Pie cast and it has relevance because the latest movie in the American Pie series, American Reunion was released this past Friday. I went to go see it and was pleasantly surprised. If you liked any of the real American Pie movies (the straight-to-dvd ones don't count) then you'll enjoy this one. Everyone in the above pic is in the movie with plenty of other favorite characters we all know and love making appearances as well. The movie also gives us a needed reminder of how hilarious Stiffler is. On to this week's songs.

Kanye West ft. Twista & Jamie Foxx - Slow Jamz
Since Kanye's been extremely busy lately, first releasing two new songs (Theraflu, Mercy) and then drawing everyone's attention to his relationship with Kim Kardashian (which seems like a great idea..), I decided to pick this standout song from Kanye's debut album (to be fair any of those songs are standouts, that album is amazing) as my first choice. I know what you're saying, this song is from 2004. How is that 'throwback'? 2004 was (sadly) 8 years ago so this somehow counts and makes all of us feel that much older. The song itself is great. Two great verses from Kanye and Twista (this song is also on his album 'Kamikaze') with a smooth Jamie Foxx hook all over a beat that you don't hear that often anymore. I enjoy 2012 Kanye with all of his douchebaggery and braggadocious lyrics and attitude but I can't help hearing some of his old stuff sometimes and miss the Kanye that brought us 'The College Dropout' and 'Late Registration'
Vitamin C - Graduation
I decided to pick this 2000 (seems unbelievable it was released 12 years ago) hit from Vitamin C as my second song because it's the end of the school year for most if not all university students. Everyone knows this song and everyone knows the lyrics. Immediately after hearing the first notes, this song will make you want to stare into space as you remember years past. Even now when it's regarded more as cheesy, I don't know of anyone who listens to this and doesn't reminisce about something. This song can make any slideshow of pictures feel important and sad (seriously try it).
Ol' Dirty Bastard - Got Your Money
The one O.D.B. song that all white people know and with good reason as it is extremely catchy and showcases O.D.B.'s talents on the mic. This is one of the better rap songs of the 90's and will continue to be great to listen to whenever it is played. Also, if the hook singer sounds familiar, that is because it's Kelis who can no longer make milkshakes because of all the boys already chilling in her yard. Ol' Dirty Bastard was one of the better Wu-Tang members and remains underrated to this day because of his premature death. There's been reports that an O.D.B. movie is being released with Michael Kenneth Williams (Omar in The Wire) taking the titular role. Hopefully this movie shines a bigger light on O.D.B.'s music. R.I.P.

Prozzak - Strange Disease
Back before everyone was illegally downloading music, Much Dance was the shit. Look at the tracklist for Much Dance 2000 and 2001. You can’t go wrong when an album has both Eminem and Ricky Martin songs, that’s just too good. Strange Disease also made it on the album, and it’s one of those songs that no one will have probably heard of unless they owned one of the song collection albums such as Much Dance. It’s a nostalgic song because odds are you haven’t heard it in the last 12 years. So if you owned Much Dance 2000, check out this song because you’ll definitely remember it.
Ja Rule - Livin' It Up
I’m not a Ja Rule fan, nor have I even been. This is one of the only songs he made that I can even listen to, and the only one that’s on my iTunes. Just like the above song, it’s somewhat nostalgic because it’s been a long time since Ja’s released anything anyone’s listened to, and this was one of the first rap songs I listened to. It’s a good thing I was introduced to Eminem, because growing up listening to Ja Rule sounds pretty tragic. Regardless, Livin’ It Up is a pretty good song and I still enjoy giving it a listen here and there.
B4-4 - Get Down
For my final song, I thought I’d take something for Much Dance 2001 since the album is just as good as the previous year’s. I don’t really know how this song made it because in all honesty, as much as I like it, the lyrics are pretty dumb (“If you get down on me, I’ll get down on you”), and there were much better songs by other boy bands at the time (although Much Dance 2001 did include a Backstreet Boys and NSYNC song). The video is as funny as the song, and I don’t know which of them is yelling “Let me give it to you baby, baby” at the end of the video, but it’s annoying as hell. The song is still fun to listen to because of the nostalgia factor and if you ignore the stupidity of the lyrics, it’s still pretty catchy.
Until next Thursday!
