Fuck this team. They somehow have me caring again. Just two weeks ago I wrote a very critical post about the Eagles and their frustrating loss against the Bears. I also said that we couldn't possibly lose to the Cardinals and we somehow did (To fucking John Skelton. I feel as if this should be the tiebreaker for the playoffs. You lose to Skelton, you don't make it). After last week's loss I somewhat gave up on this season. I mean what's the point of cheering for a bunch of under-achievers who don't really seem to care that we're losing (other than Vick) and a coaching staff led by a guy to whom the words time and management have no correlation whatsoever. On Sunday night I had no expectations. How could we win against a Giants team at home who was not likely to lose two in a row? Especially with Vick and Maclin out and Vince Young in at center, it wasn't looking too good. I even tweeted about it (shameless plug @Luka_M91). Despite all of this I turned the game on just in time for the opening kickoff. I don't know if it's because I felt obligated to watch or because I had a psych paper due that I didn't feel like starting. Whatever it might have been, I began to watch.
I ended up watching the entire game and in the end the Eagles somehow pulled through. Vince Young was his usual average to below average self throwing 2 TD's and 3 INT's (one was not his fault) but once the 4th quarter came, Young turned into Brady/Montana/Tebow (Isn't it amazing how i can put Tebow's name there because of what he's done so far? I love the NFL) leading an 18 play, 91 yard drive taking up 9 minutes of game time before connecting with Riley Cooper on an 8 yard TD pass (Before this play, Cooper was awful. Just terrible. I don't care if the stats don't back me up. Anyone who watched this game must have thought the same thing as me, "Cooper has the Giants covering"). The main reason Philadelphia won this game was the inspired play of their defense. The Giants could do nothing on the ground finishing with only 29 yards (Brandon Jacobs is so washed up) and while the pass defense was still shaky at some parts of the game (Nnamdi got beat for the Giants only TD of the game) it was for the most part exactly as advertised. Finally, the pass rush was terrific. Jason Babin and Trent Cole are beasts and Babin's forced fumble on Manning is the reason I'm writing this blog post. So thank you for that. And just like that, after one game the Eagles have me back and fully invested in this season. Meanwhile my psych paper remained untouched, much like salads at Andy Reid's house.
So what's next for my Philadelphia Eagles? 6 more weeks of must-win football. It will not be easy but looking at the schedule it is doable. Also Andy, don't start Vick if he's not healthy. Please. We have a better shot at beating New England with a healthy Vince Young. As crazy as that sounds they do not have a good secondary. Even though they killed the Chiefs on Monday night and picked off Palko several times (This is more Palko than Patriots, I mean the only possible defense Palko can use for some of those interceptions is to claim he's partially blind.) I believe that we can throw the ball on this team.
I refuse to say anything about the possible outcome of the game on Sunday since I do not want to jinx the Eagles in any way (I blame myself partially for the Cardinals loss). However I will say that it will be hard to beat the greatest QB ever, Tom Brady or Rob Gronkowski, Jesus Christ reincarnated as an NFL tight end would be worse than him. And how could Andy Reid possibly have a chance against coaching genius Bill Belichick? I mean the man brought back tattered gray sweatshirts into style. We have no shot. (Hopefully this works)
See you next week!
