If you plan to watch this episode, do not read the following
article until you have watched it. Ok realistically I can’t stop you, but there
are SPOILERS below. You have been warned.
Cliffhanger alert! Zombies attacking the Wall, I repeat,
zombies attacking the Wall. What a great finale this was to an awesome season
of Game of Thrones. Every story has a twist in it that will make all Game of
Thrones fans wait impatiently until next year’s release of the third season. If
only I could click the fast forward button (or read the books, but after this
finale I’m kind of hesitant to do so, because it is so well done…maybe I’ll
read the first 2 only).
I really need to talk about what’s going on beyond the Wall
right now, since that last scene was so fucking awesome. Basically a huge army
of zombies (I’m not sure what classifies as white walkers anymore, because
these ones are different than the ones that were shown in previous episodes),
including zombie horses, had begun their walk towards the Wall and are preparing
to attack it. I don’t think the Knight’s watch has a chance, especially with
Jon now off to see the wilding king, and if the zombies manage to get over the
Wall, the rest of Westeros is in deep shit. How do you even fight against an
army of Game of Thrones zombies? I can only see Dany and her dragons being able
to defeat them, but the dragons are way too young (still managed to destroy the
Warlock). There should be a big sign displayed saying “Zombies in the north,
avoid at all costs”. Unfortunately Bran and his crew are headed north as Luwin
instructed them to do as his dying wish. That scene was one of two very
emotional scenes in this episode, as Luwin dies along with the rest of
Winterfell (fuck you Theon). How cool would it be if Ned could be resurrected
and we could watch him obliterate Theon in a fight?
Speaking of resurrection…Khal Drogo makes an appearance.
You’re bullshitting me right? As Dany explores the house of the undying (weird
place), she encounters a tent with Drogo and their son in it. Really a great
scene that reminded us all how cool Drogo is and also how strong Dany is deep
down inside, because she knows the Warlock is messing around with her and
leaves the two, reuniting with her dragons. Shortly after being chained by the
Warlock, her dragons burn him to ashes and Dany returns to her people, or
what’s left of them. Dany finally opens Xaro’s vault, only to find out that it
is completely empty (just like his promises), so she decides to fill it up with
Xaro himself and Doreah (who was sleeping with Xaro). After making poor
decision after poor decision this season, Dany finally looks like her strong
self. Only way to go from now on is west once she gets ships. Hopefully she
arrives at King’s Landing next season and her dragons burn Joffrey just like
they did the Warlock.
What a great relief it is knowing that Tyrion is alive! He’s
got a big scar across his face, but he’s breathing and that is great news for
all the Tyrion fans. Unfortunately, he’s in big danger at the moment, because
most of his family wants him dead (Cersei had that knight ordered to kill him
during the war). However, he refuses to leave King’s Landing with Shae, and we
really get to see how much they love each other in the second highly emotion
scene of the episode. Other important things happen in King’s Landing, like
Tywin getting rewarded for his victory and Joffrey continuing his douchery and
exchanging Sansa for Magaery to be his wife. Why didn’t Sansa just go with
Hound when he offered her a ride up north? Actually that wouldn’t have been
good with Winterfell burning down and the zombies coming, but maybe she would
run into her brother and mother on the way. Little Finger interrupts Sansa’s
brief moment of happiness and promises to help her escape (keeping up his end
of the deal with Lady Stark). I don’t know what’s going to happen here next
season, but King’s Landing is always packed with interesting events.
The other piece in Little Finger’s bargain is Arya. After
her escape from Harrenhal, she encounters Jaqen again (yes he’s back!). He
reveals to her that he is a “faceless man”, but that he will return if she
gives the special coin he gave her and says “Valar Morghulis” to anyone from
Braavos. This means we will probably get to see him again in the future. In other
areas, Jaime and Brienne are still trekking to King’s Landing, Robb marries his
love, Theon is being carried back to Pyke by his men, and Melisandre shows
Stannis (how did he escape Blackwater?) that he will still be at the head of
the Throne, even though he lost the war. I just realized how weird the Magaery
and Joffrey relationship will be. First of all she’s older than him (looks like
about 5 years) and second of all he’s a weird dude.
The Game of Thrones universe just keeps getting better and
better, and hopefully this trend will continue during the next season. I
thought this episode finished the season off at a strong point and led into the
next season beautifully with a lot of questions still unanswered. This is my
last review for this season’s Game of Thrones, but not my last article as I
will be handing out some season awards within the next week. Thanks to everyone
who read the reviews!
