Throwback Thursdays #2

Yes that's the cast of Saved By The Bell. No joke here because I have midterms to study for.
Here are this week's songs:

Luka:

Five - If Ya Gettin Down

Again, lots of school stuff so no long descriptions by me. First clip is of British boy band Five and their 1999 hit. I love this video for the way that the band members are taking this way too seriously (are they wearing body armor?) and that a young Ellen DeGeneres makes a cameo several times (just kidding but it does look like her) in it. Finally, this band was apparently signed by Simon Cowell which is kind of impressive. Note: I got this information from their Wiki page meaning that they could have put it there for some credibility.

New Kids On The Block - You Got It (The Right Stuff)

A great and easy-listening hit from 1988 that everyone knows as soon as they hear it. Also, New Kids On The Block? Is that the most currently misleading band name? Half these guys already have grandkids.

Jay-Z - 22 Two's

Classic Jay from a Classic album. No jokes here. Just great music.

Jovan:

Spice Girls - Wannabe

I remember listening to Spice World when it came out in the 1990s and thinking I was one of the cool kids. Those were good times. Now I can’t even turn on a Spice Girls song or a Backstreet Boys or N’sync song without being called out by my friends. Well, times may change, but the quality of a song does not. Wannabe was a terrific song when it came out, and it’s still a good listen. I don’t know what happened to good boy/girl bands. They disappeared in the early 2000s and have been replaced by a new generation of forgettable music. That’s why my iPod has more 90s songs than current songs.

Frankie Vallie - Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You

You may not know this one by its title, but you’ve definitely heard the chorus before. Just like almost every other song from before the 1970s, Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You is about love (it’s nice to listen to songs with some meaning, unlike a lot of the songs being released today that have nothing to do with life whatsoever – sure, there are good beats today, but song quality has definitely worsened). Give it a listen – if you’re a fan of any type of old music, this should appeal to you – it’s a good song with a nice message and proof that music from back in the day deserves to be heard by todays generation.

Enrique Iglesias - Hero

What a lovely song. And a lovely voice (no homo). Not many people will admit to liking Hero, but it’s one of those songs that everybody knows and loves. This was Enrique Iglesias at his prime (he also released another spectacular song – Bailamos), and it’d hard to believe he’s still singing. I swear he’s been singing for over 15 years and he’s still young and releasing good music, though I can’t say that the Ping Pong song and Tonight I’m ******* You can even be compared to his earlier work. Hero is a beautiful song, and don’t lie, you feel pretty emotional when you listen to it. By the way, how beautiful is Jennifer Love Hewitt in the video?

Till Next Week!
